Fracture Incidence by State

The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) published Australia-wide data on hospitalisations following minimal trauma by fracture site, for people aged 50 and over, for 2012–13. Currently, this data is not publicly available for each state and territory of Australia.

The burden of disease analysis published by Osteoporosis Australia for the period 2012-2022 indicated that hip fractures accounted for 42% of the total proportional cost burden of all fractures but represented just 16% of all osteoporotic fractures.

In 2014, the Australian and New Zealand Hip Fracture Registry Steering Group published a report on hip fracture hospitalisation trends for the period 2000-01 to 2011-12. This provides data for all states and territories of Australia, and New Zealand.
